Fellows

A great incentive to enhance your research career

The Radboud  University Nijmegen Medical Centre (RUNMC) tenure-track research fellowship awards aim to promote innovation in academic research by giving young, creative and talented researchers the opportunity to further their own research within the context of the six RUNMC research institutes.

These unique and highly sought after research positions offer a special opportunity to establish an independent research group. Moreover, subject to the candidate fulfilling our Principal Investigator criteria, the candidate will be offered a tenure-track position with a permanent contract.

The research fellow places are intended to recruit talent from outside of the RUNMC. In this respect candidates should not have had an employment relationship with the Radboud University or the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre in the last 3 years.

Apply

The RUNMC  invites excellent researchers with several years of research experience at post-doctoral level to apply for one of these tenure-track fellowship awards.

The award itself provides resources for the fellow candidate, a technician or PhD student, materials and overheads. The total award is for a maximum of 800,000 Euro and a maximum of five years. Two awards are available for 2012.

Dr Ronald van Rij is a research fellow at the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS). One of the main reasons for applying for a fellowship place in Nijmegen after postdoctoral training in the US and Utrecht was the prospect of setting up his own new research line. ‘In the Netherlands it is quite unique for a young researcher to be given such an opportunity. Particularly when you are involved in research in a new branch of science.’ Acquiring external funding went really well in his first year. He managed to acquire a prestigious VIDI grant from NWO. Besides the fact that this immediately gave him the status of junior PI, his research group expanded to include four researchers and a trainee.
