Every discovery in medical science should ultimately be applied in clinical practice. How such a discovery finds a way into clinical practice, however, is a science in itself. And that is exactly the field of research the NCEBP specialises in. |

The next three questions are central to this research:
- Are the findings resulting from laboratory research or laboratory animal research also applicable to human patients?
- Does applying them lead to a reduction in sickness or mortality?
- And if so, how do you introduce them as a structural part of the daily activities of medics, allied healthcare workers and nurses?
These are the questions that are being asked in the fight against serious diseases such as cancer, chronic pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease and dementia.
The NCEBP conducts research that is aimed at individual patients and patient populations, and in a preventative sense also at healthy populations. The NCEBP is often involved in the development and evaluation of guidelines and protocols, both nationally and internationally. But the NCEBP is also involved in a broader sense, in all manner of policy issues concerning healthcare, thus bridging the gap between science and society.
