The department of Cardiology of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre.
Patient care of the Department is organised around four main topics:
- Acute coronary syndrome
- Heart rhythm disturbances
- Heart failure
- Congenital heart disease
Congenital heart disease
The Heartlung Centre of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre offers the complete care for adults with congenital heart disease. As treatment possibilities for children with congenital heart disease have markedly increased in the last decennia, 85% of these children reach adulthood.
Many patients have been operated during childhood, but will need livelong medical care for residual lesions, heart failure or the development of cardiac arrhythmias. Some will undergo repeated operations of percutaneous cardiac interventions.
Adult congenital cardiac care is provided in close collaboration with the Departments of Pediatric Cardiology and (congenital) Cardiothoracic Surgery. Outpatient care takes place in the 'one-stop-shop' format.
