The department teaches and performs research in applications of physics to living systems.
Teaching includes courses for physics, natural sciences and cognitive neuroscience students and service courses for students in computer science, biology, medicine, dentistry, biomedical sciences and molecular life sciences.
Research encompasses the neural basis of behavior (auditory, vestibular and visuo-motor system, computational neuroscience and motor control), bioelectricity and machine learning.
The foundation for neural networks, SNN is affiliated with the department.
