Expert Centre Chronic Fatigue

The Expert Centre Chronic Fatigue of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre is a multidisciplinary collaboration focussing on the study of chronic fatigue. 

Internists, paediatricians, virologists, oncologists, neurologists, neurophysiologists, neuroscientists and psychologists from several departments in the UMC Nijmegen collaborate to extend the knowledge of chronic fatigue.

This means that the Expert Centre not only investigates Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but also performs research on chronic fatigue in cancer, chronic fatigue in neuromuscular diseases as well as chronic fatigue in other conditions.

Aims

The expert centre has set the following aims:

  • The knowledge about chronic fatigue has to be further developed and extended by scientific studies.
  • The available knowledge will be applied to improve patient care in the different groups of patients with chronic fatigue.
  • Scientific and applied knowledge will be disseminated to increase the expertise in chronic fatigue among scientists, medical practitioners and other professionals as well as lay persons. This will be achieved by publications, presentations, education and implementation of treatment modalities.

Tasks

The Expert Centre Chronic Fatigue has the following tasks:

  • Scientific research in chronic fatigue.
  • Patient care, to apply the knowledge where possible.
  • Passing on knowledge of chronic fatigue to others.
